Media Center

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday 8:20 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The goal of the Brookshire Elementary Media Center is to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading. Students visit the media center to check-out books, hear stories, and perform research. Our school has several fun and motivational programs designed to promote student reading. They include the following:

  • The Busy Bulldogs Reader Program is open to all Kindergarten and 1st grade students. A Busy Bulldog Reader log is used to record the books that students read with parents, older siblings, or other adults. Each log has space for 25 titles. Parents should record the title of each book, sign the form, and return it to the media center. On the back of the form students should either write or draw a picture about one of the books
  • The Busy Bulldog PTA Volunteers visit classrooms to distribute buttons and prizes. A new button is given for each completed log. Throughout the year there will be special “Wear Your Button Days” when students are encouraged to wear all of the buttons that they have earned. Please read at your own pace and enjoy the experience.
  • The Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Program is a statewide reading program open to students in grades 3 to 8. All Brookshire students in grades 3 to 5 are encouraged to read at least 3 of the 15 titles available. Students who have read at least 3 titles by March, are invited to vote for their favorite book and attend an ice cream party. The ballots cast at our school are forwarded to Tallahassee where they help to choose a statewide winner for the year.

  • The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is open to all students. Our school has over 3,500 AR titles. Books are color coded by reading level so that students can quickly identify a book at their reading level. Once students read a book they can take a short quiz on the content of the book. By passing tests students earn points which they can use to purchase prizes.
